Ignistan

Ignistan coat of arms

Nestled along the southern coastline and stretching deep into the heart of the Great Vastara Desert, Ignistan is a country of striking contrasts. Known as the Kingdom of Flames, Ignistan boasts a strong military presence and thrives on its robust coastal trade. The arid expanses of the desert are punctuated by bustling cities and settlements along its fertile coastline, where the economy is bolstered by both legitimate trade and the controversial slave trade.

Demographic

The population of Ignistan is predominantly comprised of two main races: the Mokmire and the Veilith. Although there is no formal policy of discrimination or restriction against other races, there exists a prevalent perception among both the government and the populace that outsiders are potentially untrustworthy and pose a risk to societal safety and harmony. The ruling Venarch's family, along with the families of the most influential viziers and governors, belong exclusively to the Veilith race, reinforcing their prominent status within Ignistan's societal hierarchy.

Government

Venarchate

Ignistan is ruled by a Venarch, who wields absolute power, supported by a network of viziers and local governors. The Venarch's authority is considered divinely sanctioned, and his decrees are enforced by a formidable military and a network of spies. Local governance varies significantly between the cosmopolitan coast and the tribal desert interiors, with coastal governors holding considerable autonomy to manage trade and enforce maritime laws.

Culture and Society

Ignistan's culture is a vibrant tapestry woven from its rich history of trade and the diverse influences of its inhabitants. The coastal cities are known for their opulent architecture, lively markets, and bustling ports, where goods from across the known world are traded daily. In contrast, the desert regions hold a mystique of their own, with ancient traditions and customs preserved by the tribes who traverse the Vastara.

Social stratification in Ignistan is pronounced, with a clear divide between the wealthy merchant classes, the working citizens, and the enslaved population. Despite the ethical controversies surrounding it, the slave trade is a crucial part of Ignistan's economy.

The Kingdom's military not only boasts a large ground army, but also one of the largest fleets of the continent, which protects its borders but also ensures control over the slave trade routes. Of notable importance are the Velkraani Riders, an elite knight unit that is composed of Veilith warriors mounted on Velkraans, majestic creatures that are native to the volcanic regions of Ignistan and the Rakatoa chain.

Festivals and religious observances play a significant role in Ignistani society, often centered around seasonal changes and historical events. These celebrations are marked by music, dance, and public feasts, which are attended by a wide array of society, though slaves are generally excluded from participation.

Ignistan is a land of resilience and beauty, characterized by its harsh landscapes and the warmth of its people. The Kingdom continues to navigate the complexities of its internal and external affairs, striving to maintain its prosperity amid the challenges posed by its reliance on the slave trade and the harsh desert that covers much of its territory.
